When love overrides business

We all agree that professional football is a business and therefore there are ethics, code of conduct, contracts and everything that goes with the employer and the employee when it comes to an agreement between a football club and a football player.

Over the years, we've seen and heard of contractual issues between clubs and footballers with one party or the other crying foul. We've heard players, at times, feeling 'used' by clubs when they alleged that their contracts were not respected or honoured. We've covered the players' dissatisfaction when it comes to signing-on fees that are owed to them and are never get paid. We've also spoken about the apparent willy-nilly acquisition of PSL status and all the problems that come with it, mostly with the players being the biggest losers. However, there is something that has been happening for some time now where clubs are forced to let go of 'rotten potatoes' that threaten to spoil the 'whole bag', meaning the team dynamic through their issues off the field. A lot of times, the supporters feel let down by players who continue to go this route because they see the potential and value in those players. Although the players themselves, at face value, don’t seem to realise what they have in them until it is all over.
