On Saturday I was privileged to be invited as a special guest to the 2025 Castle Lager Incoming Series match between South Africa and Georgia at the Mbombela Stadium.

It was such an honour, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience as we all came out to support our boys, the Springboks, and they didn’t disappoint. What a festive atmosphere as our boys thumped their opponents 55-10! It was also great that our Junior Boks beat New Zealand 23-15 in the final of the World Rugby U-20 Championship on the same day. As if that wasn’t enough, Banyana Banyana beat Senegal 4-1 on penalties, after a goalless draw, to secure their semifinal spot in the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Saturday night. It was such a great sporting day for South Africa and something we should all be proud of. It is such a pity we lost our semis clash against our arch-rivals, Nigeria on Tuesday night. Tough luck to coach Desiree Ellis, the technical team and the players. I also want to wish Gabriela Salgado a speedy recovery from her serious injury.

Kaizer Chiefs find themselves in another period of transition. With head coach Nasreddine Nabi absent from the team according to the club's latest update last month, Amakhosi have been navigating the campaign under the guidance of assistant coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze. Their recent Carling Knockout exit at the hands of Stellenbosch FC - decided via a penalty shootout this past weekend - only underlined the need for stability and direction. For Swedish coach Alan Melke, the situation at Naturena is one he has observed with keen interest. Melke has built a reputation for taking struggling sides and turning them into stable, competitive outfits - a skillset that resonates with Chiefs' current reality. His resume stretches from the grassroots of Sweden's Sixth Division to the elite stage of two FIFA World Cups.
