Newcastle suffer injury blows mid defeat to Bees

Newcastle United were beaten 3-1 at Brentford on Sunday in a match which saw them lose two players due to injury and another blow was confirmed.

Anthony Gordon was left out of the travelling squad, and during the match, Joelinton was withdrawn following a knock as Harvey Barnes gave Newcastle the lead. They held onto it until halftime before Kevin Schade headed Brentford level.

Nick Pope then fell awkwardly with the score at 1-1, but played on before eventually coming off once Newcastle had conceded a penalty. Igor Thiago scored past substitute goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale to make it 2-1 from the spot before making it 3-1 and putting the result beyond doubt in stoppage time.
