Five common mistakes people regularly make come January
Shields Gazette
|January 13, 2026
January often starts with good intentions.
-
After Christmas, many people want to feel healthier, move more and get back into a routine. That is a great place to start. The issue is that January often comes with pressure to change everything at once, and that is when motivation quickly drops.
The first mistake I see every year is crash dieting. After weeks of festive food, people feel the need to cut calories hard or remove whole food groups. This usually leads to low energy, poor mood and cravings. It might work short term, but it rarely lasts.
A better approach is to focus on regular meals, enough protein, plenty of vegetables and drinking more water. These simple habits support your body instead of fighting it.
