Sanctuary Flag raised in support of Refugee Week
Sevenoaks Chronicle
|June 26, 2025
SEVENOAKS marked this year’s Refugee Week by reaffirming its aim to ensure those seeking asylum are “truly welcomed”.
The Mayor of Sevenoaks, Cllr Tony Clayton, raised the Sanctuary Flag at the Vine last Monday to highlight the town’s involvement in supporting refugees.
The week's headline event in Sevenoaks was the Desperate Journeys immersive experience, aimed at helping young people understand what it is like to be displaced by war and conflict.
Two local charities, Empathy Action and Sevenoaks Welcomes Refugees, joined together to present this experience.
More than 300 school children, members of the public, local councillors and Guides and Scouts groups were expected to benefit from this immersive experience, delivered in a maze-like set and including theatre techniques, striking visual installations and a powerful soundtrack.
