Wilde about you

Of a hangover. For the first trip, we were taken by coach to the hilltop town of Taormina for a guided walk.

Taormina was a fascinating place, difficult to access but very rewarding when you are there, steeped in history, and we learned about its many conquerors. It is so beautiful it captured the heart of Oscar Wilde, who described it as a “lovers’ paradise”. His statue, in the centre of the town, is surrounded by butterflies.

We were so impressed we decided one visit wasn't enough, so on one of our free days, we organised our own trip to the town and its even more isolated neighbour above Castelmola.
