Wage rises for lowest paid 'worst level in three years'
Scottish Daily Express
|April 03, 2025
WAGE rises for low-paid workers are at the worst level in three years, as economists fear that high inflation will erode incomes.
Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds claimed an increase to the national minimum wage would mean low-paid staff could help drive growth.
But research by jobs website Indeed indicates wage growth for those on lower incomes is on the decline - but inflation is set to creep up.
It found that annual pay growth for low-wage roles came to 6.2% in February, the lowest figure since early 2022.
Wage growth for people in low-pay jobs was 6.8% in the previous month.
Indeed's calculation for low-wage workers includes anyone who is paid less than £12.55 an hour.
