DONALD Trump has said the UK's departure from the European Union was “on the sloppy side” — but insisted Britain is now “getting straightened out”.

Trump looks forward to second state visit despite MPs' no-show

The US president also told the BBC that Britain is “a great place — you know I own property there”.

He then spoke warmly about Sir Keir Starmer, despite political differences, and mentioned the new US-UK trade agreement.

He said: “I really like the Prime Minister a lot, even though he’s a liberal. He did a good trade deal with us, which a lot of other countries didn’t do.”

Mr Trump is set to make an unprecedented second state visit in September. Like last time in 2019 and unlike Mr Trump's predecessor Barack Obama he will not be addressing Parliament, which will not be sitting. Asked about Nigel Farage’s push to recall Parliament so he might speak to MPs, Mr Trump said: “Let them go and have a good time. I don’t want that.”
