Police chief reiterates dismissal of ties to the killings
POLICE Scotland's chief constable has reiterated the force's belief that there is nothing to suggest the murders of two Scottish gangsters in a Spanish bar have any direct links to this country.
Jo Farrell was speaking yesterday as the probe into the killings of Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jr continued.
Following the shootings in Fuengirola last month, it was immediately suggested that the two deaths were the latest chapter in a brutal conflict that has been raging in Scotland for months.
Both Monaghan, 43, and 46-yearold Lyons Jr were high-ranking members of the north Glasgowbased Lyons crime family.
For the past two decades they have been at war with local rivals the Daniels, which has resulted in several high-profile killings and countless other attacks.
The shootings also coincided with the eruption of a gang war in Scotland following the theft of a £500,000 cocaine stash. Operation
Rebuttal
Portaledge, set up by police to identify those behind the feud, has led to 49 arrests so far.
Yet, despite both of these ongoing disputes, claims that the Fuengirola shootings were linked to either were dismissed within days by Police Scotland.
