Swinney 'to blame' for thousands of oil and gas job losses

John Swinney denies his policies are to blame for Mossmorran closure

ExxonMobil announced the closure of its Mossmorran Fife Ethylene Plant on Tuesday - months after Grangemouth's oil refinery was shut down.

The Scottish Executive vowed to publish a Mossmorran transition plan 18 months ago but failed to do so, with 400 jobs now at risk.

Bosses blamed the UK Government's opposition to oil and gas for the decision to shut down a branch of its business.

While the SNP tries to paint itself as a supporter of the industry, it is still government policy to have a “presumption” against new oil and gas developments.
