Scotland but we have major concerns. We do not have enough police officers in Scotland.

“Anyone that says we do, I don’t know where they get those figures from.”

He added: “We know what police officers have to do day in, day out and we need more officers in Scotland. When these events come along that puts those officers that are here under so much pressure.”

Mr Kennedy went on: “All this costs money and Police Scotland’s budget is bust. Everybody working longer hours and days has a knock-on effect for months, if not years.”

Speaking to the Sunday Mail, Mr Kennedy went on: “It’s a recipe for disaster. We don't have enough cops. President Trump is a magnet to certain groups. There will be protests and just because the president is in one place doesn’t mean that’s where protests take place.

“With this event, it is survival mode. That’s the mentality that will set in.”

During the trip, which finishes next Tuesday, the President, right, is due to meet Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and is expected to hold face-to-face talks with First Minister John Swinney.
