SCOTS who avoided the temptations of the High Street yesterday still managed to pick up a Boxing Day bonus - cobalt blue skies and a full day of sunshine.

Sun shines on holiday strollers and shoppers

Shoppers headed to Edinburgh's Princes Street to grab a festive bargain as annual sales started

High pressure over the UK ruled out any festive flurries, but there were no complaints from dog-walkers and children trying out their new bikes and scooters.

And while the parks and gardens were packed with people relishing the brisk conditions, shopping centres were also enjoying a bumper Bank Holiday.

Tom Morgan from the Met Office claimed Scotland was in the vanguard for the UK basking in bright and sunny conditions, saying Boxing Day was “a glorious day for getting out and burning of yesterday’s Christmas lunch”.

Brisk

Mr Morgan added: “Increasing cloud will arrive on Friday night in northern Scotland with the potential for some drizzle in the mix.

“Saturday will be a different day, perhaps more in the way of cloud, compared to Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
