Riley to fight extradition to Spain over bar murders

'Stop looking at me!' Gang shooting suspect shouts at court gallery

THE suspect arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of two Scottish gangsters in a Spanish bar screamed “don’t look at me” at someone sat in the public gallery of a courtroom yesterday.

Michael Riley was making his third appearance since being detained following the murders of Ross Monaghan and Eddie Lyons Jnr on May 31.

He is currently awaiting extradition back to Spain but yesterday confirmed that he would be fighting the application.

Monaghan, 43, and 46-year-old Lyons Jnr were gunned down three weeks ago today after they had watched the final of football’s Champions League.

Yesterday, Riley appeared in person before Westminster Magistrates.

His case had been heard the previous day when Riley was seen on video link from HMP Wandsworth, where he is on remand.

However, due to technical difficulties, District Judge John Bristow ordered he appear in person yesterday.

He was detained on Friday, June 13, in Liverpool by Merseyside Police, who executed an international arrest warrant on behalf of the Spanish authorities.

Riley, who was born in Bootle, north Merseyside but gave his current address as being Huyton in Merseyside.

He was then was asked if he consented to being extradited back to Spain, to which he replied: “No, I do not.”
