ASMALL family butcher has triumphed over some of Scotland’s biggest names to claim the country’s best traditional steak pie title.
S. Cronnie Family Butchers of Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire, was crowned Scottish Traditional Steak Pie Champion at the 2025 Scottish Craft Butchers Awards, beating nearly 100 other entries.
Owner Steven Cronnie, 52, said the family had achieved national recognition on its first attempt.
He said: “This is the first time we've entered a competition so to beat the best-known butchers in Scotland is a huge achievement.
Surge
“I've been making steak pies all my working life. We always reckoned ours was good but to have it judged the best is phenomenal. We're proud as punch, it’s unbelievable.”
After 19 years in the trade, Steven launched his own business in 2020, running the Newton Stewart Queen Street shop alongside his wife Shirley and teenage apprentice son Liam.
