SIMON MURRAY is hoping the honour of being Dundee captain can inspire him to even greater achievements.
SIMON MURRAY is hoping the honour of being Dundee captain can inspire him to even greater achievements.
The 33-year-old has just come off his best personal campaign where he netted 16 Premiership goals, was shortlisted for the PFA Scotland player of the year award and was tipped for a Scotland call-up.
Murray is looking to kick on again and now has the added motivation after being named as skipper of his boyhood club by new boss Steven Pressley.
“Hopefully I can (beat last season’s goal tally), that’s the plan,” said Murray.
“That’s been two seasons on the bounce where I’ve hit very similar numbers.
“I got 16 in the league last year, which was good. So it would be great to match that and maybe get 17.
“But ultimately, I just want to be a good team-mate and win more games this season.
“So, if that means me not scoring as many, but the team winning more games, then I’ll take that as well.”
