Scammers target 'less savvy' older people on social media

INTERNATIONAL scammers are targeting older people using social media accounts such as Facebook as they are not as savvy at ensuring security settings are watertight.

Fraudbusting UK police have teamed up with Silicon Valley experts to encourage people to protect their online accounts better after over 35,000 victim reports were lodged last year.

That represents a sharp rise in hacking, with 35,434 reports made to Action Fraud, compared with 22,530 in 2023, today's data show.
