Stubbs warns Celtic: 'I would be cautious in hiring Martinez'

ALAN STUBBS has warned Celtic against appointing Roberto Martinez this summer - despite the Spaniard being his own managerial inspiration.

Martinez is the red hot favourite to become the next boss at Parkhead when his current contract with Portugal expires after this summer's World Cup.

Stubbs was Everton Under-21 boss when Martinez pipped him to the top job at the Toffees in 2013 and previously heaped praise on him for offering him advice at Goodison Park that paved the way for him to become a senior boss in his own right at Hibs.

Yet despite that, the Englishman has urged Celtic to be cautious when it comes to the prospect of hiring Martinez this summer as a case with Brendan permanent successor to Rodgers at times', even interim boss Martin O'Neill, who Stubbs won a Treble under at Parkhead in 2001.
