TOM PIDCOCK dug deep on the imposing slopes of the Angliru to strengthen his hold on third place in the Vuelta a Espana.

Pidcock was distanced by race leader Jonas Vingegaard and second-placed Joao Almeida early on the 12km climb, one of the most feared in professional cycling, but fought all the way up to limit his losses on stage 13.
