protest row as operation put Trump's visit
Scottish Daily Express
|July 25, 2025
THE Scottish Secretary failed to answer questions about why his opinion has changed on Donald Trump in a car crash interview yesterday.
-
As part of the Opposition, Ian Murray signed a motion which accused the American President of “misogynism, racism and xenophobia” and called for then prime minister Theresa May to rescind the offer of an official state visit during his first term.
It was also backed by other senior members of the Labour administration in David Lammy and Wes Streeting. It was put forward at the House of Commons ahead of Mr Trump’s first state visit in 2019.
Mr Murray was accused of “student politics” by rivals over his humiliating u-turn as he admitted that he needed to welcome Mr Trump to Scotland as a representative of the UK Government.
