O'Neill calls for truce with Green Brigade

- BY RYAN MCDONALD

PEACEMAKER OF PARADISE?

MARTIN O'NEILL is ready to step into Celtic's boardroom war and try to broker a peace deal with the Green Brigade.

The returning gaffer wants the ultras group back inside Parkhead and hopes the wider fanbase can unite ahead of a crucial title battle.

The Green Brigade have been locked out since early November and slapped with an indefinite ban over a string of off-field issues.

They are among hundreds of supporters’ organisations backing the Celtic Fans Collective, who have led demonstrations and boycotts against the under-fire hierarchy since a disastrous summer transfer window.

With diehards and top brass locked in a tense standoff, O'Neill (left) has offered himself as a peacemaker.

He said: “Right, do you know what I think? In the longer, shorter term, I wouldn't mind having a meeting with a group of people just for people airing their grievances and things like this here.

"But, listen, I'm a football manager. It's ridiculous of me and rather obnoxiously ridiculous of me to think that I can resolve a problem. What you can do is, I think that you can have a bit of a truce, if that's the case.
