Most patients left wanting in facing cancer diagnoses

ALMOST two-thirds of cancer patients were not given a written care plan after being diagnosed with the disease, research has revealed.

Plans set out a patient’s needs and goals, treatment programme and what emotional, practical and financial support they could receive.

However, data from the Scottish Cancer Patient Experience Survey 24 showed that 64% were not offered such a plan, with 8% of respondents saying they did not know or understand what a care plan was.
