And right up until last night, it looked as though it was going to be nothing like a Celtic Park atmosphere.

Schmeichel is not a man to get involved in off-the-field politics at the club, but he does know that having the punters back onside - even for the short term - is a major boost ahead of tonight's Europa League visit of Braga.

And the keeper is well aware of what a fully fired-up arena can bring to his side and what it does to the opposition.

A host of stars including Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Gianluigi Buffon have raved about the wall of noise at Parkhead on European nights, regardless of the result.

That's why former Manchester City and Leicester No.1 Schmeichel will be thrilled it's business as usual after fan groups axed plans for a silent protest.
