Martin out to prove doubters wrong

- By Andy Newport

RUSSELL MARTIN rocked into Ibrox and declared he’s ready to prove his doubters wrong.

The 39-year-old was yesterday confirmed as just the 20th man to take up the job as Rangers manager after agreeing a three-year deal.

But the return of the club’s former defender hasn’t exactly won universal approval from the sceptical Light Blue legions.

The ex-MK Dons, Swansea and Southampton gaffer arrives with a reputation for building bold teams who dominate the ball. But the 29-times capped Scotland international’s patchy win ratio and wretched record in the Premier League before being sacked by Saints last December, has left swathes of supporters harbouring serious concerns about his suitability for the top job in Govan.

But asked if was confident he could win them over, Martin insisted: “Yeah, I have to be.

“I have a lot to prove. I have done it my whole career - but my whole career has been based on proving people wrong.
