Landmark local church is ravaged by massive blaze

Inferno leaves iconic kirk in ruins despite all-night battle by brave firefighters

FIREFIGHTERS had to work through the night to tackle an inferno at a B-listed Scots church.

Crews raced to the blaze at St Mungo's Trinity Parish in Cumbernauld at around 7.30pm on Saturday. Emergency service responders were still at the scene yesterday morning.

However, police said the blaze was under control and there were no injuries. Residents previously told to stay indoors and close their windows were allowed to return to normal.

The inferno ravaged the iconic B-listed local landmark, which is situated in the town's St Mungo's Road.
