Toony: Funny people look at beating England as negative
GREGOR TOWNSEND reckons Scotland's 31-20 win over England on Saturday shows how good his team can be on their day.
And the head coach believes playing so well against the Auld Enemy is a “massive positive” - not a weakness, as some south of the Border have claimed.
Last week ex-England captain Courtney Lawes argued that Scotland's “obsession” with his side is why Townsend's team don't win anything big like the Six Nations or the World Cup.
But after the shock win at Murrayfield, Townsend - who has won six and drawn one of his nine Calcutta Cup matches as coach - suggested his players should be inspired by their success.
He said: “I did find it funny that people are looking at it as a negative. I played against this team 10 times and only won one game.
“Nothing hits harder than losing to England. So to play our best rugby against England is a massive positive.
“If I was to choose one team to play your best rugby against, it would be England every time.
