Fun and games on second day of German state visit

THE King and Queen played snakes and ladders and made paper handprints with their German guests yesterday as they showcased the work of charity volunteers.

The second day of the state visit began with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Büdenbender paying a private visit to Queen Elizabeth II's tomb at Windsor Castle.

At 10am the couple met Charles and Camilla, who had hosted them at a glittering state banquet the previous night. They went to the castle's Inner Hall, which had never been used for an official engagement before.

Inside were 60 charity staff and volunteers - and a sleigh designed by Germanborn Prince Albert for his wife Queen Victoria.
