EXTEND OUR PUB HOURS FOR THIRSTY SCOTLAND FANS

Calls to relax strict licensing laws during next year's World Cup matches
SCOTLAND'S stunning qualification for next year's World Cup has prompted a crescendo of calls for the country's pubs to receive “special dispensation” to open late to serve thousands of thirsty fans.
The amazing 4-2 triumph over Denmark at Hampden on Tuesday night was one of the most remarkable games in the country's footballing history.
Steve Clarke's men will now travel to the USA, Canada and Mexico to take part in the finals of the tournament for the first time in 28 years.
But time differences mean some games will be kicking of at 11pm and 2am British Summer Time.
As a result, there has been a clarion call for the Scottish Government to allow pubs to relax the strict licensing laws that currently exist.
As well as being a major benefit for football fans across the country, lifting the restrictions would provide a huge boost for the beleaguered hospitality industry.
The devastating impact of Covid upon the sector is still being felt and many within the industry have spoken out about what they perceive as a lack of any real help from the Scottish Government.
As a result, the opportunity to extend opening hours provides landlords and brewers alike with a real chance to boost profits.
Leading the campaign for change is the leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats.
Speaking yesterday, Alex Cole-Hamilton said: "After years of heartache, what a night and what a way to show we belong on the biggest stage of all.
"While a lucky few head over the Atlantic, the appetite for watching Scotland's games back here is going to be off the scale.
"I want to see government and councils work together to give fans the best experience." Mr Cole-Hamilton continued: "Huge fan parks could be set up across the country so we can gather to watch our games on the biggest screens in stadiums or parks.
