Palmer says hard-to-please punters should be grateful
CARLTON PALMER says sceptical Rangers fans should count themselves lucky that Danny Rohl agreed to take on the manager's job at Ibrox.
The same support that turned their noses up at Russell Martin have reacted with similar disdain over the appointment of the inexperienced 36-year-old German to replace the derided ex-Scotland international.
The Light Blue legions were left telling the Rangers owners "told you so" when Martin's disastrous reign blew up within 123 days.
But having seen Rohl work minor miracles at his old club Sheffield Wednesday, Palmer reckons those same punters should now be thanking the club's 21st permanent manager for standing up to the challenge of Making Rangers Great Again when others have walked away.
Rohl was also in the running to land the job in the summer but Ibrox chiefs Andrew Cavenagh, Patrick Stewart and Kevin Thelwell opted for Martin.
The former Germany and Bayern Munich No.2 came back into contention earlier this month but appeared to have withdrawn from the race last week when Gers' American owners instead chose to pursue Steven Gerrard and then Kevin Muscat.
Having been rebuffed by both men, Rohl became the last man standing.
