Camilla's birthday goes with a bang

THE Queen might have celebrated her 78th birthday quietly at home yesterday but the Army obviously wanted to make some noise about her special day.

They fired off two royal salutes to make sure the celebrations really went with a bang.

At midday, the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery fired a 41-gun salute in London’s Green Park.

Wearing full dress uniforms, with gold braided jackets and busby hats, gunners fired blanks from six First World War-era 13-pounder field guns at 10-second intervals.

And, as the shots were heard across Westminster, the Band of the Scots Guards performed a military tribute to Her Majesty.
