ADAM TO THE RESCUE
Scottish Daily Express
|May 05, 2025
ADAM Idah denied Rangers a third straight Premiership victory over Glasgow rivals Celtic in yesterday's lunchtime clash. And, while there was little at stake at Ibrox, an Old Firm match is always packed with meaning and by the end Celtic had the big Irishman to thank for their point.
Brendan Rodgers' champions have been out of Rangers' range all season when it comes to points on the board. But the Ibrox strugglers have been quicker on the draw in recent derby shoot-outs.
They'd scored three goals in each of the three previous derbies and the Light Blues supporters were hoping for a third straight league victory over their rivals when erratic striker Cyriel Dessers fired home just ahead of half-time.
It was his 25th goal of the season and he could have won it late on but an ugly freshair swipe let the Bhoys off the hook.
Idah is also unpredictable, yet it was his second-half equaliser a 19th of the campaign-that stopped the derby rot.
Gers may have edged the Premiership head to heads with two wins to Celtic's one back in September but a 17-point gap highlights the scale of the task awaiting the Ibrox club's new American owners.
The 2,500 Hoops fans - back at Ibrox for the first time since January 2023 - greeted their team with thunderous renditions of 'Championees', reminding their rivals of the clinching of a fourth successive league title.
The annual guard of honour debate was given short shift by the vanquished hosts.
