12 die as Asian border skirmishes intensify

AT least 12 people were killed in clashes in contested border areas between Thailand and Cambodia yesterday.

Both sides exchanged gunfire in the early hours, each blaming the other for starting the skirmishes.

Thailand, which has accused Cambodia of firing rockets, deployed an F-16 fighter jet and launched airstrikes on ground military targets. Cambodia has yet to confirm whether it suffered any casualties.
