Coach Carter honored for his community commitment

It saddens me to say I recently lost my brother, Clarence Carter, affectionately known as "Coach Carter," on the morning of April 19, 2025. When I heard of his death, I remember my mind going back down memory lane.

It was like I was looking at a film--a flashback of his life, from Cincinnati to Philadelphia--Count was right by my side. He was the middle child and the beloved baby boy of my mother, Bobbie Jean Carter and Clarence A. Carter. He was one of 9 children and was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Lonnie Gray, Steven Gray, Vanessa Gray, and Jackie Miller. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving sisters Gail Gray, Teena Carter, Norma Lee Carter, and Yanina Carter.

My big brother was a superstar in my eyes, but I wasn't the only one who thought my brother was special--a true pillar of the community. He leaves behind a legacy rooted in mentorship, leadership, and unwavering dedication to the youth and families whose lives he touched.
