Widnes unable to kickstart their campaign

WIDNES were hoping to put behind them last week’s poor performance but were unable to match Oxton with either bat or ball, falling to a 85 run defeat.
Newly-appointed captain, Alex Hewitt, must be contemplating a very tough season ahead with his new bowling attack so far failing to consistently put pressure on the opposition and restrict runs.
The match began with Oxton winning the toss and electing to bat first on a superbly prepared wicket, with a lightning fast outfield. Openers, Luke Filer and Jonny Crick began in confident fashion. Filer looked in good touch, as the score rattled past 50. With a hundred opening partnership in sight, Filer was bowled Rohan Luthra for 45. This wicket brought to the crease, the dangerous Dane Williams.
