School working hard to maintain standards

A ROMAN Catholic Primary School in Runcorn has taken effective action to maintain standards, Ofsted found.

The outcome came at St Clement's on Oxford Road where lead inspector Sharon Cowey made a two-day visit.

A report explained the school had previously been judged to be Good for overall effectiveness.

Staff take time to get to know pupils and their families well and from the start of the early years children thrive in the surroundings, said the inspector.

There are 'high expectations' for their academic success and behaviour and pupils achieve well across different subjects. They behave well and are respectful to staff, visitors and each other.

Children enjoy attending clubs after school and at lunch times and are keen to take on roles of responsibility that allow them to make a positive contribution to the school.

They delight in the wide range of exciting visits and visitors that enhance their learning.

The school is 'passionate' about encouraging pupils to become 'curious, creative and confident learners.' This underpins the 'considerable improvements' that have been made to the curriculum which is ambitious and well-designed.
