A BAND spent the week of the national VE Day commemorations bringing a taste of 1940s’ musical cheer to events in The Valley by playing at three street parties.

Bank Holiday Monday saw Water Village Band perform at the party in the grounds of Lumb Baptist Church at lunchtime before making a quick dash to Bacup to play at Trinity Baptist Church's indoor party.

Both events heard a double programme of wartime music plus some well-known theme tunes from wartime cinema hits from the 1960s and '70s.

Elaine Roberts, a trustee and cornet player with the band, said: "As a community brass band we were delighted to be asked to play at these two street parties; they are just the kind of event we excel at. And what's more, we enjoyed ourselves as well.
