A GRANDMOTHER says she has been battling for ten years to get her granddaughter into schools that will meet her special needs.
-
Linda Bateson from Newchurch has tirelessly fought for her granddaughter Farrah, 13, to get into a special school since she was in reception.
She and her husband Nigel have raised Farrah since she was two-years-old.
Farrah has been diagnosed with ADHD, mental health issues due to trauma and a string of other disorders.
In a letter to Linda Lancashire County Council (LCC) said Farrah would benefit from an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP). EHCP plans identify educational, health and social needs and set out the additional support to meet those needs.
Farrah’s SEND co-ordinator at the Valley Leadership Academy in Stacksteads where she attends school has written to LCC explaining why the school cannot meet Farrah’s needs and has been advocating for her to be moved to a school where she would thrive.
However, LCC have determined Farrah should stay at her current school.
