The Internet Isn't Weightless
Many assume that digital activity is clean because it doesn't involve physical goods or transport. However, the infrastructure that supports the internet - massive data centers, undersea cables, network towers, and millions of devices - requires vast amounts of electricity.
Data centers alone account for around 1-2% of global electricity consumption, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). These centers, filled with rows of high-powered servers, run 24/7, storing and processing everything from emails to video calls. Keeping them cool and functional is an energy-intensive endeavor.
