Call for unity among SA Indians

FOR years now, this peculiar habit of the same “twin or triplet” Indian ladies in our community raises their toxic habit of attempting to knock down any suggestions that “we Indians” in South Africa should become united like the old days.

They seem to do this by making it their lifetime mission, pointing to selected pieces of some true history, some imagined, some perceived and probably mythological.

They have this most unproductive habit of picking on certain Muslim writers, as well as dragging even Hindu writers into a quagmire that serves only one function — to breed hatred.

Regardless of what happened in Bangladesh, Pakistan or India dur-ing the “bad old days”, some writers make suggestions to still find gen-eral commonality between the three stratas of religions among the Indian community.

Many of us - Muslims, Christians and Hindus - remember having mostly fond memories of great ties with one another.
