Poor service delivery: DA denied motion

Last Tuesday's meeting of Polokwane's municipal council started on a low note when Speaker Welhemina Modiba refused to allow a discussion of a notice of motion and the response thereon from officials regarding poor service delivery in the municipal area.

The motion was submitted by DA councillor in the municipality, Jacques Joubert for debate during the council meeting.

Mayor John Mpe supported the Speaker, arguing that the motion was a generalisation of basic services not rendered to residents of Polokwane.

He added that the officials of the municipality usually respond quickly when problems with basic services are reported. He further referred to the motion as something that sometimes happens in the run-up to an election.
