Very taxing times for Scotland
Paisley Daily Express
|November 22, 2025
Scotland finds itself in the uniquely unfortunate position of having two high-tax governments at the wheel.
We have, of course, endured the high-levy SNP since 2007, over which time the cost of living in Scotland has risen drastically.
Most infamously, the nationalists have hiked income tax to the highest in the UK.
But other rates have also risen, not least eye-watering council tax bills across the whole country, while our businesses are crippled by a variety of penalties.
On Wednesday, it will be Labour's turn as they unveil their UK Budget for the year ahead.
And while not all decisions announced by Chancellor Rachel Reeves will impact Scotland in the first instance, there will be unintended consequences from any bad decision-making.
Fortunately, she appears to be rolling back from her threat to hike income tax on English taxpayers, something the SNP would have shamelessly and hypocritically exploited for their own ends.
