Passport out of poverty revoked
Paisley Daily Express
|July 01, 2025
Education is the passport out of poverty.
Always has been, always will be. Equip people with the right skills and they can have the freedom to become whoever they want to be.
To continue their education throughout their lives and keep reinventing themselves.
It is part of being Scottish. Part of our national identity. From Billy Connolly talking about how libraries made him who he is, to your Clyde trained inlaw who reminds you always to measure everything twice.
But the Education Bill which the SNP whipped through this week lived up to none of those aspirations or traditions.
For John Swinney education is not the great path to equality which is why he downgraded the exam results of working class kids during the pandemic.
But Scottish Labour will stick to our educational traditions, always looking for improvement and increasing access to a decent schooling.
