Renfrewshire Council will keep working to make sure the area is “welcoming” and a “great place to live and work” amid growing division, its leader has said.

- JACK THOMSON, LOCAL DEMOCRACY REPORTER

The SNP’s Iain Nicolson has shared his hopes for the new year and reflected on some of the challenges encountered throughout 2025.

It comes as local authorities across Scotland continue to navigate a stark financial environment - one that requires them to tighten the purse strings while also addressing surging demand for services.

The elected member for Erskine and Inchinnan also touched upon the volatile state of politics, both nationally and internationally, at this point in time.

He said: "In 2026, I would hope that the economy improves so that everyone can feel the benefit and that we are able to continue to increase our focus on delivering on the priorities of the people of Renfrewshire.

"Politics at a national and international level are in a terrible place right now with a rise in division and hate being directed to small minorities.
