'No officer should face this level of criminality'

The head of Renfrewshire police yesterday praised her officers as she welcomed the conviction of Liridon Kastrati.
Kastrati was convicted of attempting to murder PC Gary Cowan after a trial at the High Court in Paisley on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old had, on May 6 last year, rammed a car he was driving into a marked police car on Glasgow Road in Ralston injuring PC Cowan and PC Kelly Ferris who were in the vehicle.
Kastrati then chased the officers while brandishing a running chainsaw, shouting and swearing at them. The officers called for immediate assistance and were quickly joined by colleagues and Kastrati was arrested.
