New EU deal good for business

Last week I spoke in parliament in support of the newly announced trade deal between the United Kingdom and the European Union.

This deal will bring enormous benefits to our country, including a new Youth Experience Scheme for 18 to 35-year-olds, easier access to EU markets for our fishing industries, a major new defence and security deal, better cooperation on tackling illegal migration and access to e-gates at airports making travel easier for British citizens.

The chief executive of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce, the trade body representing Scottish businesses, has said publicly that: "This UK-EU deal will help reduce costs, cut red tape, and make it easier for Scottish businesses to compete and grow across European markets."

This Labour government is focused on growing the British economy and supporting our businesses because we know that growth will allow us to invest in our public services and put more money in the pockets of working people.
