Former manager recalls magic and pride of 2013 open-top bus parade

- COLIN PATERSON

It was only when he was standing on an open-top bus in Paisley surrounded by thousands of fans that Danny Lennon realised the magnitude of the achievement.

Sunday, March 17 - St Mirren’s Day. In 2013, Lennon’s Buddies made history by winning the League Cup at the third time of asking.

A dramatic 3-2 victory over Hearts, courtesy of goals from Esmael Goncalves, Steven Thompson and Conor Newton, laid to rest the ghosts of finals which had been fought and lost in 1955 and 2010.

It was a success masterminded by Lennon who yesterday took a wee trip down memory lane as Stephen Robinson's Saints prepare to face Celtic in tomorrow's Premier Sports Cup Final.
