Giving children best start in life

- Natalie Don SNP MSP for Renfrewshire North and West

Getting things Don

I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer and that pupils, parents and carers, and school staff are settling into the first week of the new term.

The holidays can be a wonderful time for making memories but I also know that, for many local families, this period brings extra pressures.

The ongoing cost-of-living crisis means that keeping children entertained, fed, and active over the break can be a real challenge.

That's why the SNP Scottish Government has been working hard to make sure every child in Renfrewshire has access to fun and affordable opportunities, not just during summer, but throughout the year.

To tackle holiday hunger head-on, more than £21.75 million has been invested to deliver holiday free school meals for children from low-income families throughout every school holiday, regardless of age or school stage.

This is on top of the free school meals offered to all primary one to P5 pupils.
