Firm's solar farm is a bright idea for energy

A Renfrewshire solar panel farm has been turned on as the Scottish Leather Group (SLG) seeks to further bolster its green credentials.

The solar farm, the size of three football pitches, is situated next to the company's Bridge of Weir leather production factory on Kilbarchan Road and will provide at least 24 per cent of the plant's electricity needs every year.

Covering an area of 33,000m2, the 4,348-panel farm can generate up to 3.0 MW of power in total and will provide private wire, self-generated electrical energy, for all SLG companies, including Bridge of Weir Leather and Muirhead, helping to reduce their environmental impact.

Bridge of Weir Leather, a supplier of high-performance leather, celebrated its 120th anniversary this year.
