Ferry alternative was a bridge too far

A shuttle service from Renfrew to Glasgow to replace the costly ferry was off the agenda, we were told in October 1989.

The assurance was given by Renfrew regional councillor Tommy Graham.

He described the bus plan as “nonsense”.

Rumours were circulating widely that the two alternatives to the ferry, whose future was in doubt, were being scrapped.
