Ferguslie winners on the double after their disappointing opener
Paisley Daily Express
|May 14, 2025
Ferguslie recovered from a disappointing defeat the previous weekend to emphatically record their first Western Premiership One win of the season against Uddingston.
With David Stafford and Mo Mayet opening the batting, the home side raced off to a flying start and had scored 60 runs before the former was the first victim of the day through a snick to the wicket keeper.
Gregor Preston-Jones, making his return to the side after a season out, made only seven before being caught at gully but a third-wicket stand of 134 between Mayet (110) and Uzair Ahmad (70) effectively took the game away from the visitors, as the South African returned his first century of the season, while the younger brother of the two Ahmads played his best innings over at least a season.
Older brother and skipper Taimoor came in with all guns blazing and, with his side in a strong position, went for the jugular but, at 17, one big hit too many saw him dismissed and sent on his way back to the pavilion.
Wickets continued to fall as the total soared and, while the hosts narrowly missed the treble ton, an eventual score of 298/9 represented an excellent return on 50 overs of hard work.
