Care worker slammed for leaving vulnerable person with choking risk

January 31, 2026

A Paisley social care worker has been given a warning after he left a vulnerable person eating when they were at risk of choking.

- TAYLOR MURRAY

Robert Vernon was employed as a support worker for The Richmond Fellowship Scotland in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde when he reportedly ditched his responsibility of supporting a service user while they were consuming food on or around December 31, 2024.

An investigation by the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) also found Vernon had left a kettle out and the food cupboards unlocked, contrary to the risk assessment that had been put in place around the same date.
